CVAP Counselling Vancouver

Counselling Through BC’s Crime Victim Assistance Program

If you have been affected by a violent crime in British Columbia, you may be eligible for counselling funded through the Crime Victim Assistance Program.

Whether you are ready to begin counselling now or simply want to understand your options, we can help you take the next step.

CVAP may provide counselling benefits for:

  • Victims of violent crime
  • Immediate family members of victims
  • Certain witnesses to violent crime

After violence, threat, loss, or trauma, it can be difficult to know what support is available or where to begin. Counselling can provide a steady place to process what happened, reduce symptoms, and begin rebuilding a sense of stability.

How to Apply for CVAP Counselling

The Crime Victim Assistance Program provides benefits to help victims, immediate family members, and certain witnesses cope with the effects of violent crime in British Columbia. Counselling is one of the benefits that may be available through the program.

Step 1 — Complete the CVAP Application

Start by completing the appropriate Crime Victim Assistance Program application form through the Province of British Columbia.

Step 2 — Wait for CVAP to Review Your Application

CVAP will review your application and confirm which benefits you are eligible for. If counselling is approved, you can use that benefit with an eligible counselling provider.

Step 3 — Book a Free Discovery Session

Once you are ready to begin, or if you want help understanding whether Nightingale is the right fit, you can book a free Discovery Session. We will talk through your needs, answer questions about getting started, and match you with a counsellor.

How Counselling Can Help After Crime or Violence

People respond to crime and violence in many different ways. You may feel anxious, numb, angry, unsafe, disconnected, overwhelmed, or unsure how to return to daily life.

You do not need to have the right words before starting counselling. You only need a safe place to begin.

  • Trauma symptoms, anxiety, or fear
  • Grief, shock, anger, or emotional numbness
  • Sleep difficulties or nightmares
  • Relationship strain or withdrawal
  • Difficulty focusing, working, studying, or parenting
  • Rebuilding safety, confidence, and daily routines
