We are pleased to announce that starting on Monday, July 24, 2023, we will be launching a new way that clients will begin their therapeutic relationships with Senior Clinicians (Senior and Directorial Clinicians) at Nightingale Counselling and Research. We call it Nightingale’s Senior Clinician Matching Assurance or SCMA—we pronounce it like the word “schema”.
The tradition in psychotherapeutic circles—and anyone who has ever met with a therapist has gone through this process—is that prospective clients meet with their prospective counsellors on the phone or in person or by video for 10-20 minutes. This system works fine, but it tends to leave clients wanting more.
Why is this? Well… starting therapy can be difficult, for some extremely difficult. And for others who are more familiar with counselling, they are keen to return and get to work. In both circumstances, an introductory meet and greet with a prospective counsellor feels a little underwhelming. Counsellors similarly want to get to work.
We’ve piloted this program, and what we’ve found is that clients, whether people who are seeking counselling for the first time or are veterans of therapy, are also keen to get to work. Senior Clinicians at Nightingale are some of the very best in the business and are confident that Nightingale’s matching program along with their experience and confidence in their craft mean that when a new client is sitting across from them, that client is in the right place.

How it works
How does the SCMA work? It’s simple:
When you book a session with either a Senior or a Directorial Clinician—see Our Team—you will meet with that counsellor for a full session. In that full session, counselling begins. We have such confidence and assuredness in the skill and care and experience of our Senior Clinicians, that if you meet with your counsellor for a full session and don’t feel it’s a good fit, there will be no fee. If you meet with your Senior Counsellor and you feel ready to continue your counselling journey, you will pay for that session as you will all future sessions.
We’re excited to announce this program, because we think it helps reward clients for their courage to start or return to the difficult but rewarding work of counselling psychology. Starting Monday, July 24, all new clients who work with Senior and Directorial Clinicians will be enrolled in Nightingale’s SCMA program.
