Hello and Welcome! My name is Faranak and I am a Registered Clinical Counselor with the BCACC and an art therapist. I offer counseling and art therapy in both English and Farsi. I work from a collaborative and culturally sensitive lens that emphasizes the healing power of the therapeutic relationship. I view my work and role as a “fellow traveler” who moves along your unique journey with compassion, guidance, and curiosity. In our sessions, you will find the safety, warmth, and comfort to explore different areas of your life.

I believe healing is possible when individuals are able to connect with their innermost wisdom and intuition. In our work together, my goal is to help you access and reconnect with this inner wisdom. I do this by creating a therapeutic relationship that is grounded in encouragement, warmth, safety and acceptance. I use a holistic approach that values the spiritual, physical and mental aspects of wellbeing.

My trauma-informed approach creatively draws from a variety of modalities based on your individual needs and goals. Some of my modalities include but are not limited to art therapy, existential therapy, adlerian therapy, intersectional feminist theory and attachment theory. I have experience working with individuals and families dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, loss and grief, relationship and parenting problems, life transitions, domestic violence and more.

To ensure the sustainability of my practice and to provide you the best care possible, I am dedicated to engaging in regular self-care, self reflection, and ongoing training and learning opportunities at both personal and professional level. Outside of work, I take care of myself through dancing regularly, running, hanging out with my family/friends and listening to music.

I am currently accepting clients and I would feel an honor to be part of your journey.

I believe healing is a collaborative venture; you can expect to find in me a therapist that is compassionate, non-judgmental and transparent. My approach is one that uses curiosity to explore, understand and appreciate you wholly – your unique story.

I incorporate various therapeutic approaches all of which hold clients in the highest regard. Narrative therapy offers an approach that is collaborative in spirit and explores the root of ‘problem stories’ that can often find us stuck in one narrative.

We all have stories, we created them! They are beneficial as they help us to explain and understand our past and our present experiences. These stories uncover our beliefs and values, they help to shape and influence our lives – most importantly they contribute and influence the development of our future.

Let’s discover together how to alter the current narrative, by leaving behind the elements in our stories that are no longer valuable to us, cause us harm or excessive stress. Through this intentional change we can now create internal space to bring in helpful elements that will instead provide a healthier, calmer and flourishing future.

I have over 14 years of experience working and volunteering with diverse communities. I have had tremendous opportunity and vast experience counselling clients in the areas of mental health wellness, specifically addressing depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, disordered eating, and substance / behavioural concerns.
