Therapeutic Statement

‘’There is nothing permanent except change.’’ The words of the Greek philosopher Heraclitus embody the very nature of psychotherapy and can become a shining beacon of hope for us. Many times in life we may feel stuck, powerless, unable to progress, alter the ways that we think and act and even believe that our ways are set and some things, we just can’t change.

As a therapist, I strongly believe that our greatest strength as people is exactly our ability to change, face adversity and overcome difficulties that we never thought we were capable of. My goal is to aid you through this transformative process by diving deep into your own experience of the world and together making sense of it and finding ways for you to live more authentically. It is a journey that by nature isn’t fast paced, as time is necessary in order for any meaningful change to take place in our lives. To understand something cognitively is typically the first step and one that can be reached relatively quickly, yet our aim is to move towards feeling and embracing rather than just acknowledging facts, as that is one of the foundations for true therapeutic work. ‘’Shoulds’’ very rarely have a place in therapy, and the distinction between ‘’shoulds’’ and genuine ‘’wants’’ always comes up as a pillar in my understanding of it. So In a session together, anything that you want to bring up is of therapeutic value to us, whether that’s talking about intense feelings or your favourite video game. Whatever it may be, I’ll be present to support you and stand by your side as you navigate this very capricious yet wonderful thing called life!
